Brutal cold in the small hours, the air feeling near 32°F below zero and the wind steady and hard across open ground. Nothing let up. The light came late and thin through a white haze, a little sun showing through it by late morning while the gusts kept lifting a white haze off the ground, the cold easing only to near 23° below zero by mid-afternoon. Then the haze thickened again. The evening stayed near 17° below zero with the wind still working.
