Wind first. It came up hard in the small hours and by 2am the wind was strong, dragging the air down to near 5° before sunrise. The sky was clear by then and stayed clear all day. It was the dry kind of cold, the sort that cracks lips and makes every breath visible. By afternoon the air had only crept to near 21° and the wind never let go of it. Toward evening the gusts eased at last and the cold settled back in under a clear sky.
