Warm and close in the small hours, the air near 78° and sticky. The sun came through by mid-morning and the heat built fast. By early afternoon it was near 95° and the air was thick enough to lean on, then the cloud rolled in heavy and dark and the sky broke open. Rain came down in sheets through the evening, more than two inches of it, flooding the gutters and turning the grass to mud. The wind rose behind it and the air cooled to near 77° by late.
