Grey came in before the light did. The small hours sat near 28°F under thin cloud that thickened by dawn until the whole sky was one lid. Around noon it thinned enough for the sun to show through, pale and brief. By 2pm the lid was back and the afternoon eased only to 38°. Toward evening the wind picked up and leaned from one side with stiff gusts. The air turned oddly softer as the dark came, a little warmer at 10pm than it had been at 11am.
