The small hours were sharp. Near 4° before dawn under a sky with nothing in it, the kind of cold that finds the gap between collar and neck. Then the sun did its work. By noon the air had climbed to near 27° and it felt almost like spring against the morning. After 1pm the cloud came over and stayed, flattening the light for the rest of the afternoon. Evening settled grey and still near 19°, damp creeping back into the air as the dark came on.
