Cold and still in the small hours, the air near 43° with cloud thickening toward dawn and falling toward 36° by first light. Then it turned. The cloud sat on the lake but the air climbed anyway, near 60° by mid-afternoon, damp and dull, the light flat from morning to dusk. Rain came in the afternoon and kept on into the evening, a third of an inch, steady and grey. Nothing about the day lifted. Evening settled mild under the same low lid.
