Cold and still in the small hours, the air near 43°F and sliding toward 36° by first light under thin cloud. Then the sun came up and took the cloud with it. The morning climbed fast for the end of October, the air near 60° by mid-afternoon with hardly a breath of wind and the light low and gold on the lake. Nothing fell. At 5pm the sky closed over all at once, and the evening settled mild and grey under the lid.
