No cool came in the small hours. The air sat near 90° and stayed there, thick and wet, the sheets damp by morning. Dawn was clear with a few clouds low in the east that soon went. The heat rose slowly toward noon and sat near 96°. A west wind picked up in the afternoon but it was warm wind and changed little. The sky stayed empty. Evening held the heat and the air was as heavy at midnight as it had been at noon.
