Grey and cold in the small hours, the air near 24° under low cloud that sat on the valley all day. Nothing stirred. The morning stayed dim and the afternoon crept up to near 39° under the same ceiling, mild enough to soften the snow and colourless enough to make the hour hard to guess. The cloud never opened. Evening cooled back toward 24° and the dark came down early.
