Brutal cold. The small hours ran under a lid of cloud with the air feeling near 5°F below zero at midnight and falling, a hard wind driving it down to near 15° below by sunrise. The cloud cleared by mid-morning. It did nothing for the cold, the sun bright and empty overhead and the air never feeling better than 6° below through the afternoon, the wind easing to a breeze that still found the face. Then the dark came. The evening dropped fast and hard, near 20° below by late under a clear sky.
Close to what instruments recorded. The Lower St Anthony Falls station, under a mile away, recorded 0.15 in of rain that day, more than the model above shows; measured 2.5 in of snow, which the model missed. Where they differ, trust the station.
