Cold for May in the small hours, the air near 36° and falling under a clearing sky. Dawn was bright and sharp. Then the wind came. By 9am a hard west wind was blowing and it stayed that way through the middle of the day, cloud racing over and breaking apart. The air only reached the low forties and felt colder in the wind. It eased through the evening. By the last hours the gusts had dropped away and the sky was clear.
