Warm through the small hours, the air near 74° and dry under a clear sky. The sun came up and went straight to work. By late morning it was near 86° and by early afternoon near 93°, a dry heat that shimmered off the boulevard and drove people into any shade there was. A breeze from the south rose in the afternoon and helped a little. Evening stayed warm near 83° and the sky stayed empty.
