Low grey cloud from the small hours on, the air near 39° and damp under it. Morning came slow and dim. It never really brightened, though the air warmed to near 52° by mid-afternoon beneath the same flat ceiling, still and mild and colourless. Near sunset the cloud thinned for an hour and the light came in sideways. Then fog crept in and the evening cooled toward 43°.
