Bitter before dawn. A hard west wind drove the air down near 1°F in the small hours under a clear black sky, and the first light came up sharp and useless against it. By late morning the sun had lifted things to near 16°. Then cloud rolled in. The afternoon went grey and stayed grey, the wind still leaning on every corner, the air near 19° at its best around 3pm. The sky broke apart again by dusk and the evening was clear and raw, the wind only easing late.
