Secretariat Wins the Belmont Stakes

Warm and close before dawn, the air near 73°F and sticking, the sky clear. The sun came up into nothing and went to work. By late morning the heat was heavy and by 1pm it sat near 89°, a stiff breeze off the open ground drying the skin as fast as it dampened. No shade worth the name.
