The heat built quickly, the air feeling like 96° by early afternoon under thin cloud with a gusty breeze, and then it broke: a thunderstorm around 4pm dropped hard rain over downtown for two hours and knocked the air down into the low 80s. It cleared by eight. The evening was warm and mostly open.
